The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with over 5,500 employees.
The Budget Office is responsible for managing the Agency’s capital, expense, grant and miscellaneous revenue budgets; preparing budget and financial analyses and reports; and coordinating the Agency’s budget and financial matters with The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and other oversight agencies.
We have a rewarding & challenging opportunity for 2 interns, who will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working first hand with a large city government Agency in the Revenue and Claims Unit, working with staff at all different levels and be involved in collecting and analyzing data for departmental estimates; gain experience in preparing budgets, financial analyses and reports; ensure accurate recording of cash receipts, disbursements and adjustments in the Financial Management System (FMS); assist with Hurricane Sandy project worksheets and grant-funded contracts; assist in the completion and timely monthly bank reconciliation.
Preferred Skills: Candidates should have an interest in New York City government, budget government records. Proficiency in full Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Excel a plus.
This is an unpaid position.
Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate/graduate level.
student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Student must have at least a junior class standing.
