The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water per day to 8.5 million New York City residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York, and we collect and treat an average of 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day.
The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) Office of Integrated Water Management has an exciting opportunity for a talented Graphic Design Intern to spearhead the layout and graphics of New York City’s 2018 Water Demand Management Plan. The Water Demand Management Plan sets forth the City’s goals and strategies for reducing New York City’s water demand through efficiency projects citywide, partnering with City agencies and offering new incentives like the On-Site Water Reuse Grant Program. Reporting to the Water Demand Management Program Manager, the candidate will be responsible for developing layout and graphics for the final plan, using data visualization to effectively message how much water has been saved through ongoing program implementation and how future programs will supplement savings.

Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate/graduate level.
student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Student must have at least a junior class standing.
A current student from an accredited college or university in graphic design, or demonstrated abilities in graphic design and layout associated with other disciplines including but not limited to urban planning.
Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
