Overview

The Bureau of Engineering, Design and Construction (BEDC) is responsible for the design and construction of major water-related capital projects. The Bureau’s projects focus on maintaining the continued delivery of high quality drinking water and upgrading the 14 wastewater plants located throughout the City to improve water quality and comply with new rules and regulations.

 

The selected candidate will work in the Water for the Future (WFF) directorate. Under the direction of the Acting Portfolio Manager and assigned supervisor, the selected candidate will assist the construction management staff with various tasks associated with the oversight of various heavy construction projects. Typical tasks include: learn and use various computer software packages to update the construction management information systems as necessary, update tracking tables, schedule meetings, and draft meeting minutes, compile, review engineering information and data for completing various operational reports including reports to Regulators. Occasionally the selected candidate will assist with various field activities and related inspections for various projects.  Selected candidate will be responsible for adhering to and complying with all environmental, health and safety laws, Agency policies, rules, and regulations.

 

Preferred Skills:  Blueprint reading and computer software systems. Experience with MS Excel, MS Access, PI, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Contribute, Autodesk AutoCAD as well as JAVA and other website programming languages are preferred.

 

This is a paid position.

Qualifications

  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in level with coursework in Computer Science and/or Engineering or other related field of study.
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
