In 2010, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection launched “Water-On-the-Go” to provide tap water to New Yorkers at parks, plazas, and public events throughout the five boroughs.  Since its inception, more than 2,000,000 people have visited a Water-On-the-Go fountain. 


DEP is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and outgoing college students to staff Water-On-the-Go fountains this summer to not only provide drinking water but also to function as water ambassadors educating fountain visitors about NYC’s water supply and the high quality water available right from the tap.


Additional Information:  These positions requires candidates to stand for long periods of time outdoors in varying weather conditions and offers flexible hours, including some required weekend and evening hours.  Interested candidates must submit a cover letter in addition to their resume.  Please note that two selected candidates will be expected to travel and work in Staten Island.  


These are full-time, paid positions.



  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level.
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing 
  • Passionate about the environment Outgoing and friendly Customer service-oriented Self-motivated, independent, and responsible; Candidates must be able to work flexible hours at any location within NYC. 

 Selection Criteria:

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
