The Bureau of Water Supply manages, operates, and protects New York City's upstate water supply system

to ensure the delivery of a sufficient quantity of high quality drinking water.  The Bureau is also responsible for the overall management and implementation of the provisions of

the City's $1.5 billion Watershed Protection Program and for ensuring the City's compliance with the provisions of the Filtration Avoidance Determination.


The selected candidate will perform assorted tasks within the Grahamsville Laboratory group.  The selected candidate would assist with instrumentation validation, sample collection

and field analyses in the Rondout, Neversink, Pepacton and Cannonsville reservoir watersheds, and computer-based sample receiving. Other tasks would include general laboratory support functions

such as sample preparation, glassware and bottle preparation, and inventory maintenance.  Candidate will be responsible for adhering to and complying with all environmental, health and safety laws,

Agency policies, rules, and regulations. 


This is a paid position.


  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level.
  • Student should preferably have undergraduate coursework in biology, chemistry,   environmental science or related fields;
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing 


Selection Criteria:

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
