Overview

The Bureau of Water Supply manages, operates, and protects New York City's upstate water supply system to ensure the delivery of a sufficient quantity of high quality drinking water.

The Bureau is also responsible for the overall management and implementation of the provisions of the City's $1.5 billion Watershed Protection Program and

for ensuring the City's compliance with the provisions of the Filtration Avoidance Determination.

 

The selected candidate will perform assorted tasks within Kingston Field Monitoring group.  The selected candidate would assist with instrument validation, sample collection and

field analyses in the West of Hudson Watershed, and computer-based sample receiving.  Other tasks would include general field and laboratory support functions such as sample preparation,

glassware and bottle preparation, and inventory maintenance and organization.  The candidate will be assigned some data entry and data anlysis tasks under direction of a supervisor.

Candidate will be responsible for adhering to and complying with all environmental, health and safety laws, Agency policies, rules, and regulations. 

 

This is a paid position.

Qualifications

  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level and hold at least a sophomore class standing. 
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing 
  •  Student should preferably have undergraduate coursework in biology, chemistry, environmental science or related fields

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
