The Bureau of Water Supply manages, operates and protects New York City's upstate water supply system to ensure the delivery of a sufficient quantity of high quality drinking water.  The Bureau is also responsible for the overall management and implementation of the provisions of the City's $1.5 billion Watershed Protection Program and for ensuring the City's compliance with the provisions of the Filtration Avoidance Determination.

Working in the Quality Assurance Division of the Water Treatment Operations Directorate in the Risk Management Program, an RMP Assistant Intern will participate in the RMP/PSM program requirements for our 3 RMP facilities at Kensico, Hillview and CFP.


The intern will work on process improvement and compliance requirements to implement generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP) - including but not limited to identification of equipment, process equipment and associated PMs, review of PMs at Hillview and Kensico, review of codes and standards, materials of construction, organizing RMP SharePoint and Chlorine Institute documents.  Student competencies include leadership skills, self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision.  Selected candidate will be responsible for adhering to and complying with all environmental, health and safety laws, Agency policies, rules, and regulations. 


This is a paid position.


  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in with coursework in computer science and/or engineering or other related field of study. 
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing 

 Selection Criteria:

  • Computer skills including MS Excel, MS Access, PI, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Contribute,           Autodesk AutoCAD as well as JAVA and other website programming languages.
  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
