The Bureau of Water Supply manages, operates and protects New York City's upstate water supply system to ensure the delivery of a sufficient quantity of high quality drinking water. The Bureau is also responsible for the overall management and implementation of the provisions of the City's $1.5 billion Watershed Protection Program and for ensuring the City's compliance with the provisions of the Filtration Avoidance Determination.
Working in the Quality Assurance Division of the Water Treatment Operations Directorate, a Process Control Assistant-Water Quality Intern will participate in the water quality monitoring and support functions at the Croton Filtration Plant, Process Control Laboratory.
The main project objectives for the intern will be to perform sample collection and analysis for TOC. The lab needs to establish standard operating procedures for the new TOC analyzer to provide enhanced process control.
Other tasks include general laboratory support functions such as sample preparation, glassware and bottle preparation, data entry, data management, updating laboratory standard operating procedures, updating Facility Monitoring Plan, and etc. Student competencies should include leadership skills, self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision. Selected candidate will be responsible for adhering to and complying with all environmental, health and safety laws, Agency policies, rules, and regulations.
