Overview

The Bureau of Water Supply manages, operates and protects New York City's upstate water supply system to ensure the delivery of a sufficient quantity of high quality drinking water.  The Bureau is also responsible for the overall management and implementation of the provisions of the City's $1.5 billion Watershed Protection Program and for ensuring the City's compliance with the provisions of the Filtration Avoidance Determination.

 

Working in the Eastern Operations, based in Westchester County, under the direction of the Chief of Eastern Operation and assigned supervisor, the selected candidate will assist the engineering group. The selected candidate will be tasked with a variety of office and field-based projects related to facility and equipment maintenance.  They will perform facility and equipment inspections, research equipment specifications, document findings, compile engineering information and data for operational reports including reports to regulators.  The selected candidate will be exposed to real-life engineering problems that will require an understanding of engineering fundamentals, engineering management reports, and project schedules.  The selected candidate will assist the engineering and computer staff with various tasks associated with the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Electronic Operation and Maintenance Manual (EOM), AutoCAD preparation and updates of critical drawings.  Candidate will be responsible for adhering to and complying with all environmental, health and safety laws, Agency policies, rules, and regulations.

 

This is a paid position. 

Qualifications

  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in civil/mechanical/environmental/structural engineering. 
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing 

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software;including spreadsheets, databases, and Autodesk AutoCAD; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
