Overview

The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis Watershed Planning & Modeling group. 

  

Under the direction of the Environmental Planning Specialist, the selected candidate will assist with various GIS tasks and stormwater-related research.  The primary role of this position is to support DEP's Stormwater Management Plan Development for NYC's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit, particularly sections IV.G (Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations and Facilities) and IV.H (Industrial and Commercial Stormwater Sources).

 

Tasks may include: assisting with the development of stormwater best management practices; determining protocols for identifying and inventorying industrial,

commercial and municipal facilities; conducting on-line searches of government databases; creating data spreadsheets; reviewing contractor invoices; providing support during field assessments of municipal facilities and operations; assisting in the development of reporting templates and MS4 permit tracking system framework.  

  

Preferred Skills: Interest in environmental/water resources, specifically in stormwater and/or pollutant management. Proficiency in ArcGIS; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  

  

This is a paid position.  

Qualifications

  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the graduate level majoring in majoring in civil/environmental engineering, engineering science, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
