Overview

The Fixed Asset Unit in the Management, Analysis, Planning and Auditing Office of NYC Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for the recording and reporting of all completed capital assets purchased and constructed by the agency necessary for operations and improvements to the water and sewer system using capital funds.   Maintenance of an accurate fixed assets data is critical to ensure compliance of GAAP and internal control, as the fixed asset value represents more than 90% of the total assets.

 

Under general supervision of the Director of Accounting or her designee, the selected intern will assist t in entering fixed asset data into Fixed Asset Tracking System (FATS).  Assist in adding fixed asset details into the City’s Financial Information System 3(FMS3). Assist in reconciling fixed assets data between Fixed Asset Surveys; Assist in identifying assets for disposition;Update Fixed Assets monthly reports Update Fixed Asset Survey Tracker reports Update Fixed Asset monthly disposition reports Assist in other accounting related ad hoc projects.

 

Qualifications

  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level.
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student enrolled in an accredited college with at least 10 credits in accounting Courses and advance skills in Excel.
  • Student must have at least a Sophmore class standing 

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
