The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment is responsible for maintaining and improving harbor-wide water quality through efficient and reliable operation of the City’s wastewater treatment plants and its wastewater collection system.  


The candidate under the supervision of the Section engineers, will assist in field investigations of engineering problems at NYCDEP wastewater facilities and research for solutions. The intern will assist a multi-discipline engineering staff on design and implementing pilot projects,and evaluating technologies that are beneficial to NYCDEP wastewater treatment.  Primary tasks include assisting in field investigations, research of equipment, researching of as-builts documents, sizing calculations, cost analysis, preparing CAD drawings, and specification development.    


This is a paid position.


  • Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in mechanical, civil, electrical, environmental or chemical engineering.
  • Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Student must have at least a junior class standing

  • Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; familiarity and/or experience with computers/software; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
